We use the fruit, not the palm. Additionally, people say a lot of inaccurate things about something they really have no knowledge about. This is one of those things. If the leaf of the the plant were the best part of the tree, we would use it. However, the fruit is what we use. Unfortunately for your friends, they really need to get their facts straight.
