Mastering Thought and Controlling My Destiny

Nov 27

We are made and unmade by ourselves. It is our mind and our thoughts that we build our mansions or our prisons. As James Allen wrote in his masterpiece As a Man Thinketh, “…man is the master of thought, the molder of character, and the maker and shaper of condition, environment, and destiny.”

This incredible little book has so much magic in its pages that demand to be read, pondered and applied. We all yearn for answers and seek for that little something that will change our fortunes and our futures for the better. The magical words in this book teach us to simply look to ourselves for the answers.

“A noble and Godlike character is not a thing of favor or chance, but is the natural result of continued effort in right thinking, the effect of long-cherished association with Godlike thoughts.”

My life changed dramatically for the better when I became completely aware that I am the maker of myself. When I am faced with challenges small and large, I now understand that history was never kind to those who chose to succeed. Am I lesser than those who did not succumb to their challenges? Will I wilt in the face of my difficulties or will I do what the greats throughout history have done and master my thoughts, mold my character to be strong and be the maker of my environment and my destiny?

I truly yearn for a noble and Godlike character. I understand it will not come by chance or luck. I commit to continued effort to control the weak human nature that flows through my veins and challenges the deepest desires of my heart. I commit to make my environment and control my destiny in spite of life’s challenges that will drift into insignificance and be forgotten as I continue with vigor in the battle each day of right thinking.

  1. Until we man up or woman up and take control of our own life, nothing will happen. We are all our biggest ally and worst enemy. Learning how to take control of your thinking is one of the quickest ways to change your life. I’ve found that if we can get our actions to control our thoughts rather than letting our thoughts control our actions, we will be well on our way to success. Great post here.
